Work Samples and Experience

The work I’ve done cuts across a broad range of types of product, design, and strategy work. It includes UX research and design, digital and physical product management, service design, patient experience design, innovation capability building, corporate strategy, and new venture building. In industry, I’ve worked with healthcare clients such as Amgen, Dexcom, AbbVie, Bristol Myers Squibb, Humana, Vizient, and the Mayo Clinic. I’ve also worked in other sectors with clients including Ford Motor Company, Sonos, United Airlines, SK Telecom, and Samsung.

I’m passionate about pushing the frontier in how and where design and product techniques can deliver value. This means moving from its roots in traditional product and service design toward complex and systemic challenges where we move upstream to craft human-centered policy on domestic and international challenges, and back downstream to ensure the policy created is implemented in a manner that achieves the desired outcome.

Borrowing from anthropology, sociology, design, lean and agile methodologies, and business strategy, I’ve adapted and applied modern product and design techniques to large scale social and public sector challenges. These include new venture creation, climate change, economic development, city innovation, international development, cybersecurity, technology policy, and criminal and national security matters on issues such as theft of intellectual property, child safety, and mis/dis/malinformation (MDM).

Beyond the end product, experience, or solution, I’ve applied these same techniques to the people I work with, helping them to grow professionally and become better, more people-centered leaders.

The consistent themes through all of my work are to challenge conventional wisdom, see a problem from a new vantage point and take a human-centered approach to ensure we have a clear understanding of the needs of people and the problems they grapple with. This means designing for individual customers and users living the problem everyday to a team or organization level trying to build products and experiences, all the way up to the geopolitical dimensions of global challenges facing democracies and society writ large. The problems I enjoy solving often require collaborating with teams, departments, and working across industry, government, academia, and civil society to find common ground, achieve the desired outcome, iteratively adapting as we gain new insight.

In a world where we increasingly talk past each other, I firmly believe a more human-centered approach, requiring working alongside each other, allows us to grow and prosper as individuals, and as a collective whole. This matters now more than ever.
